Session 1, Handout

Notes, Session #1 Leadership Symposium, Men, 2026

Session 1: “Leading:  As Who You Are, From Where You Are, With What You Have”

Lead as who you are.

Be ____________________ in your own ________.

Know the difference between the above and:

·       Always thinking you are the smartest person in the room.

·       Never being willing to listen to anyone else.

·       Complacency

·       Resisting the work of the Holy Spirit in my life.

·       Stopping learning.

·       ……

Consider these Proverbs: 11:2 & 14, 12:15, 15:22-23, 16:18, 27:2, 29:23. Also, Psalm 119 & Eph. 5:15-18

How does ______________________________________________work?

·       Don’t take a leadership role that is bigger than your level of maturity.

·       Focus on applying principles rather than copying rules.

·       I’d say it looks like me, yielded to the Spirit, obedient to the word, content with who God has made me to be, trusting His sovereignty, learning, growing, leading . . ..

Lead from where you are

·       The foundational truth—God is ___________________

·       God’s will

·       Questions to ask:
What are we supposed to be doing?

What resources do I have to work with?
Who are the people I have to work with?
          What can these folks do?
What are they willing to do?
          What do they need?

What are the obstacles?
What has been tried in the past?
Why did it succeed or fail?  ETC!

Know what time “kairos” is it, where you’re at.

(apologies to Vicky Fought, English teacher, ABI)

·       The “do or die” question:

Lead with what you have

You may have to start small but start.
